guess what
Today’s drawing comes with an announcement. Guess what! No, I didn’t eat Doodle. But, as some of you already know, Doodle is going to be a big brother (and Hoob is going to be a big… dog sister?)! Yay!
This drawing was kind of inspired by Sarah Varon‘s pregnant bunny in her awesome Sweaterweather. Although all those little bunnies swimming around in their mum’s pregnant tummy are super cute, I felt inclined to chose an animal that has, um, fewer babies. It’s not that I fancy myself a bear (or some kind of bearish creature) or anything.
In other D&H news, check out the nice write-up I got on this blog. Thanks so much to Susan of Kiddlebug. Check out the rest of her blog for some great kid-related finds and mom musings, and check out her Etsy shop for cute felty kids’ stuff.
PS – Happy Canada Day, everyone! I won’t be up Canada way for a couple of weeks, but at least I have Stompin’ Tom here to help me celebrate (link included for non-Canadians only, obviously).

old book smell not included

Wow. This D&H post almost didn’t happen. Besides taking for e ver to draw, I’ve been fighting with Photoshop and Doodle is finding ever sneakier places to hide my stylus.
So, yeah, I like books. Right now, most of my books are boxed in the basement along with about five bookcases that don’t fit in our apartment anymore. I guess that’s what happens when toddler bedroom takes precedence over study. I figured that I’d just print out a bunch of these to hang on my walls and no one would know the difference. I would have to invest in some of this, though.

clash of the anurans
In honour of Fathers’ Day, I offer you another D&H PSA. You know when you go to the zoo/farm/wherever and hear parents imparting false information to their kids in the manner of experts? Yeah, I hate that. Fortunately, I didn’t have to deal with that as a kid, and I really try not to be that parent. Just admit you don’t know, people. Then look it up.
Coming soon: turtle vs. tortoise, salamander vs. lizard, alligator vs. crocodile, and, my favourite, monkey vs. ape.

heat wave
Sorry for the lack of post last night. I actually forgot it was Sunday until it was too late, probably because I felt a lot like this squirrel looks. But less smiling. And more moaning. I’m not a big fan of the heat. If it must be hot, then I must be in the breezy shade beside a lake or, preferably, in the lake. But I’m not anywhere near my favourite lake, so moaning works, too.
I just noticed that the straw in this squirrel’s lemonade is not visible through the glass, and is clearly at the wrong angle, but it’s too hot to fix it.

falcor flies again
I’ve been feeling slightly uninspired lately. An axolotl drawing has been on the back burner for months now, so here it is. I’m a big axolotl fan, and have wanted one for as long as I can remember. Since we move around and travel so much, any pet less portable than a dog isn’t really practical for us. I won’t even go into my “only dogs are appropriate pets because they chose to be with us instead of being captured/bred against their will” theory, lest anyone think I’m a little too sensitive. If I were to adopt an axolotl, though, I would name him Falcor, obviously. Axol Rose would be another pretty good name, but perhaps too predictable. We already know about my penchant for predictable pet names.
